Elfego Baca Golf Shoot
General Information

 
The Elfego Baca Shoot is a long distance golf event played over natural terrain from the top of Socorro Peak or New Mexico Tech’s “M” Mountain, to a designated hole near the New Mexico Tech Golf Course.

The shoot is played as part of the annual Conrad Hilton Golf Tournament.

The starting location is at the “M” on Socorro Peak. Elevation of the Socorro Peak is 7280 ft. The designated golf hole is located at 4730 ft.

 


Average distance to the hole (depending on the route entrant plays) is two and one half miles (as a crow flies).

The first tee shot can travel from 500 to 600 yards depending where the entrant hits the ball.

Extensive safety measures are enforced during this shoot. Each year approximately 3 Emergency Medical Technicians volunteer to assist in the shoot. The shoot is controlled and coordinated by the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology / Manager  of University Safety. State and local emergency personnel, law enforcement, and other officials assist in insuring a safe and enjoyable shoot.

All participants must bring sufficient water with them.

Record length of time of entrant to play the course is approximately two and one half hours.

All entrants and other personnel are transported to the top of the mountain in 4-wheel drive vehicles.

Average number of entrants is 10. Entry limits are held to 10 players, if possible. Scorekeepers are provided to insure accuracy of the shoot.

Breakfast is provided to entrants and their spotters at 6:00 AM at the NMT Golf Course. Water will be provided during the shoot at the base of the Mountain.

Entry fee is $75 and top prize is $500.00, 2nd is $400.00, 3rd is $300.00 and 4th is $200 and 5th is $160. All in merchandise.
